The 26. Austrian-German-Swiss (AGS) Charity Christmas Bazaar

This year’s Austrian German Swiss Charity Bazar was held on the 26th of November 2011 at the “Carcosa Seri Negara”.
It was a beautiful, sunny day, when over 700 visitors came to the Carcosa Seri Negara to admire and buy typical European Christmas handicraft items and decorations, homemade biscuits, marmelades, sweets, and traditional cakes. Or to try on the spot mulled wine, spiced tea and christmas cookies. Volunteers from the Austrian, Swiss and German communities work throughout the whole year in preparation for the Bazaar. There are no commercial traders at this event. The Bazaar is proud to hold the title as the only non-commercial Charity Bazaar of this kind currently existing in Kuala Lumpur.

As a tradition, the Embassies of Germany, Switzerland and Austria supported the Bazaar. This year, the official opening ceremony was graced by Ambassador Andrea Wicke (Austria), Ambassador Dr. Rolf Lenz (Switzerland) and the Deputy Head of Mission Dr. Michael Feiner (Germany). The event has been organized by the Christmas Bazar Committee of the German Speaking Society Kuala Lumpur. We would especially like to thank the coordinator of this years' bazar, Mrs. Irene Haidmann, who once again made this bazar not only possible but also a pleasant event for everybody.
This years' revenue (over RM 55.000) generated from the Bazaar will be distributed to carefully selected local charities. Volunteers from the GSSKL community visit these organizations on a regular basis to ensure that funds are appropriately distributed to those concerned. The proceeds of the 2010 Bazaar were used to benefit:
· G.O.L.D. (Generating Opportunities for Learning Disables)
· Breast Cancer Welfare Association
· Spastic Children
· Bangsa Ria, Association for the Disabled KL & S
· Women´s Aid Organisation (WAO)
· Young to Adult (Y2A / former YKPM)
· Bukit Nanas (Asram Cahaya L.J.Convent / Rumah Wanita Cacat)
