On 6 April 2011,  Ambassador Dr. Gruber and a delegation from the German Embassy visited the SGL Carbon plant in Banting, Selangor. The production site, located in Jalan Graphite, was built in 2009. Two buildings are currently under construction. The generous property with easy access to infrastructure and transport allows for further expansion.

SGL Carbon is a German based company with its headquarters in Wiesbaden. It's the worlds leading manufacturer of carbon based products. There are 45 production facilities worldwide, 9 of which are in Asia.
The company's product portfolio comprises rotor blades, aerostructures, brake systems as well as carbon fibres and composite materials used in tennis rackets, golf clubs and a variety of other products.

KH Lim, the factory's managing director and two employees, both trained in Germany and fluent in German, welcomed the group in the showroom. The facility in Banting with its 95 employees produces  a selection of the SGL product portfolio: carbon electrodes, cathodes and furnace linings.

While being shown through the vast, highly automated site, the delegation learned that the actual production process involves smelting, refining, separating and pitch impregnation and is part of a complete on site production chain. This is in fact the company's philosophy: Steering  each product through the complete production process at a state-of-the-art facility, which is part of a global sales network, guarantees a constant value chain with products of dependable quality.
