Continental Tyre hosts the German Business Roundtable
On 30 November 2016, Mr. Gerhard Janotta, Plant Manager, and his team at Continental, were happy to welcome over 20 German Business Roundtable participants to the last Roundtable event of the year at their factory in Petaling Jaya.
Mr. Jens Brinckmann, Economic Counsellor, took this opportunity to introduce himself as the new Head of the Economic Affairs Department at the German Embassy and to give a short overview of the Embassy events of the past few months.
This was followed by Mr. Janotta’s presentation about the company’s history and its production site in Malaysia.
Continental was founded in Hanover in 1871, manufacturing soft rubber products, rubberized fabrics, and solid tires for carriages and bicycles. In 1898, initial successes in development and production were celebrated with the production of automobile pneumatic tires with a plain tread.
Today, Continental ranks among the top 5 automotive suppliers worldwide. As a supplier of brake systems, systems and components for powertrains and chassis, instrumentation, infotainment solutions, vehicle electronics, tires and technical elastomers, Continental contributes to enhanced driving safety and global climate protection. Continental is also a competent partner in networked automobile communication.
The factory in Petaling Jaya was founded in 1963, by 2012 is was fully taken over by Continental and with its workforce of 900 employees, who work in three shifts, produces tires for lorries and specialty tires for commercial uses for the Malaysian market and export.
After a factory tour, over some refreshments, the Roundtable participants had the chance to ask further questions and to network amongst themselves.
