Ambassador Michael attends Roofing Ceremony of Osram LED Chip Plant in Kulim
November 2016. Ambassador Holger Michael was one of the invited VIP guests at the roofing ceremony for the Osram Opto Semiconductors’ new LED chip production plant at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
The Ambassador was welcomed by Mr. Aldo Kamper, President and CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors, and Dr. Roland Mueller, Managing Director. Deputy MITI Minister YB Datuk Chuah Tee Yong represented the Malaysian Government.
Sitting on approximately 48 acres of land, the Kulim plant will represent the largest and most modern LED chip production site in the world.
Mr. Aldo Kamper, President and CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors, stated: “We are seeing a high growth of global LED lighting market, driven by increasing adoption of LED lighting systems.”
The new plant is scheduled to start production on the 30th of November 2017.
Osram started production in Penang with its pioneer plant in the early 1970’s and has been expanding ever since.
With the new plant in Kulim, the additional production capability will enable Osram to further strengthen its technological leadership and ability to flexibly respond to the increasing demand for top quality LEDs worldwide.
