The recipe for a rocking Oktoberfest seems simple enough and has been proven to work for over a 100 years: Bavarian beer, hearty food and hot and “barnstorming” music are the basic ingredients for Germany’s no. 1 export hit.

But it’s the right mixture of people and their readiness to actively participate in the party that makes all the difference.

Ambassador Dr. Gruber proclaimed this motto when tapping the barrel with two well targeted strokes. “ The Oktoberfest is not a show you watch, but rather an event that you create yourself. Have fun!”.

More than 1000 guests followed his advice on the 5th and 6th of October and danced the night away until well after midnight.

Original alpine songs, popular hits as well as spiced up songs, with their cheeky heckles, soon prompted lots of guests to the dance floor. The chicken dance and and the “aviator song” which involves sweat inducing swimming, jumping, and flying movements were the crowd pleasers.

Compared to last year there were visibly more Bavarian oufits. Until the day of the event, the Embassy received many enquiries about possible sources for Bavarian traditional costumes.

All in all, the Ambassador's Oktoberfest was once again a great success. Many thanks go to the organising team at the MGCC and all the participating German companies.

The “Münchner Oktoberfest”, or as the local Bavarians refer to it, “Die Wiesn” is the single biggest and most prestigious fair in the world. However, it is also one the most traditional fairs in the world and gives the visitor a good insight on the mixture between 21st century modern Germany and ancient Bavarian culture and customs.
