Inaugural Graduation Ceremony of the German Dual Vocational Training Programme
It was a very special occasion, when in the morning of 15 November 2017 sixteen trainees of the first German Dual Vocational Training Programme received their graduation certificates.
The ceremony was attended by the graduates and their family members, VIP representatives from the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the German Embassy, the Department of Skills Development, the German- Malaysian Institute and the German company representatives.
The German DVT Programme was initiated by former Malaysian-German Chamber Executive Director Alexander Stedtfeld in cooperation with the Department of Skills Development of the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) and the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI).
After many years of brain storming, negotiations and mountains of paper work, the DVT programme took off in June 2014. The courses offered then were Industrial Management and Logistic Operations Management. A new course, Mechatronics, has been added recently.
The training takes three years and follows the German DVT model, whereas the trainees work in the respective companies for their practical training (75%), but also go to school part-time (25%).
This endeavor proved to be very successful and there is now also a DVT Centre in Penang.
