Palm Oil can be produced sustainably

A delegation of the Budget Committee of the German Federal Parliament visited Malaysia from 6 to 8 January 2011, before travelling on to Brunei and Indonesia. The experts on agriculture MP Mr. Georg Schirmbeck, MP Dr. Michael Luther, MP Lothar Binding and MP Heinz-Peter Haustein were here to gather information on cultivation and production of palm oil, forestry and Malaysian financial policies.

They met with Bank Negara Deputy Governor, Dato' Razif Abdul Kadir, the Minister for Plantation Industries and Commodities, H.E. Bernard Dompok, as well as with experts of MPOA, MPOB and MPOC and representatives from the Forest Research Institute Malaysia.

The delegation participated in a Round Table discussion on palm oil issues, moderated by the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Alexander Stedtfeld, which was also attended by experts from the business community and the German development agency giz.

Furthermore, they visited United Plantations' palm oil plantation Jendarata Estate in Teluk Intan to gain first hand knowledge on how palm oil can be produced sustainably.
