Germany: A Reliable Partner for ASEAN
German Members of Parliament are convinced that ASEAN has to have a bigger role in German awareness, especially when compared to China and India.
The ASEAN caucus of German parliament, headed by MP Dr. Thomas Gambke and comprising MPs Anita Schäfer, Holger Ortel, Stephan Thomae, Dr. Joachim Pfeiffer and Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker, had a chance to experience the economic dynamism of Penang, visiting the German company Osram and meeting with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. They also received a briefing regarding conservation issues by the Penang Heritage Trust.
In Kuala Lumpur, the delegates met Minister of Plantations YB Bernard Dompok, General Secretary Loo Took Gee of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and water and were informed by CEO Alexander Stedtfeld, MGCC, and the representative of 'germany trade and invest', Thomas Hundt, about the investment climate in Malaysia.
The programme was complemented by discussions with members of parliament, human rights groups, religious groups, and a meeting with representatives from German institutions in Malaysia, the political foundations and the German business commmunity.
