Over the last decades, Germany and Malaysia have established close links in various fields of cooperation, and we are proud to note that the relationship between our two countries continues to be strong and of great mutual benefit. The excellent economic partnership between Germany and Malaysia has served for many years as the backbone of the excellent relationship. Approximately 350 German companies are doing business in Malaysia while several Malaysian companies are investing in interesting projects in Germany. There is no doubt, that the economic and scientific joint ventures between the two countries are based on important sectors like high technology, perfection and high quality standards, which will be able to meet the present and coming challenges in a global world. Examples of other areas for further successful cooperation are tourism or environmental technologies and alternative energies.

Cultural exchange and cooperation projects between Germany and Malaysia have also contributed considerably to our friendship. In the field of higher education in particular, Malaysian-German ties are becoming more impressive. There are now about 1.000 young Malaysians studying at German universities. The numbers are still on the upswing, especially as a consequence of the initiative by the Embassy to bring together German businesses and Malaysia's elite of the future at Malaysian top universities through so-called „German Days“.

I am confident that the German Embassy together with our friends and partners will contribute to fostering ever growing cooperation between Germany and Malaysia to the benefit of our two peoples.
