The Political Department
The Embassy's Political Department observes Malaysian foreign and domestic policy based on contacts with the Malaysian Government, Parliament and non-governmental institutions. In addition, political officers inform Malaysian partners and organisations about political developments within Germany and her foreign and European policy.
The Economic Affairs Department
The Economic Affairs Department supports German companies in Malaysia and works closely together with other German organizations in Malaysia such as the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industrie (MGCC) and the correspondent of the trade information office, Germany Trade & Invest - gtai.
Among the tasks of the Economic Affairs Department is the political dialogue with the Malaysian Government on economic matters. Where necessary, it acts as a facilitator for German companies which need access to Malaysian Government bodies. It compiles statistics and provides trade information.
In addition to that, the department tracks and evaluates the economic development in Malaysia.
The Consular and Legal Department
The Consular and Legal Department provides visa services for short and longs term stays in Germany, as well as a range of other services for German citizens, e.g. issuing of passports, registration of births.
The Cultural Department
The Embassy's Cultural Department coordinates German cultural policy in Malaysia, promotes German language and German studies in Malaysia and supports exchange programmes within its consular district. The Cultural Department contributes organisational or financial assistance to cultural events of various kinds. Requests regarding support of specific cultural events (music, theatre, dance, exhibitions, performances, etc.) can also be directed to the Goethe-Institut Kuala Lumpur. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), an institution which provides information on studying in Germany, is also an important link between the two nations.
The Press Department
The Press and Information Department is responsible for the Embassy's media contacts and provides information on certain issues and policy matters. The Press Department
- provides information on German government policies
- answers questions concerning political issues related to Germany
- handles requests from both Malaysian and foreign accredited journalists in Malaysia for interviews and statements
- helps media representatives to get in touch with people in Germany
- gives advice on how to cover interesting topics
- liaises with German correspondents and broadcasting stations covering Malaysia from Singapore
The Press Department publishes Press Releases to inform about forthcoming events and current developments in Germany and Malaysia.
